6 Things to Do at the Coolest Event Going On in Ottawa

Who wouldn’t want to spend the night at the museum?  Especially one that looks like a castle! Whether you are a tourist in Ottawa or just a local like me, Nature Nocturne is one of the most unique events going on in Ottawa and is definitely one you do not want to miss.

This event happens periodically so make sure to check out the museum’s website and social media to find out when the next one is, and what the theme will be!

Here are 6 things you can do at the event!

1.     Dance Under the Moon

The museum of Nature really puts a lot of effort into the dance floors and DJs that come to Nature Nocturne. The museum transforms their main salon into a large dance floor where you can go dance underneath the lit-up moon for the perfect Instagram photo-op. They also have 2 other picturesque dance floors that you can check out for some good opportunities to dance the night away!

2. Dress up for the theme

Nature Nocturne is super cool because every event has a unique theme that is followed. When I went in January, the theme was called “Bring the Flavour” and had a 90s dress code. To go with the 90s theme, all of the dance floors played 90s hits. One dance floor played pop hits like Backstreet Boys and Spice girls, and another played more Rap and Hip-Hop hits which was really fun. Dressing up also just brought an extra element to the event, and really made for some cool pictures.

3. Participate in some cool activities 

One thing about Nature Nocturne is that it isn’t just a dance party – there are lots of activities going on throughout the museum. At the event that I attended in January, there was a murder mystery happening throughout the museum, where the winner could win a year’s supply of chicken wings. There were also Hops and Kombucha tastings happening over the course of the night as well.

4. Have yourself a drink to let loose

While Beau’s brewery is one of Nature Nocturne’s sponsors, there are lots of opportunities to have a beer (or another drink of choice) at the event. They have lots of cash bars placed all around the museum so you can definitely grab a drink to keep the night going. There is also a VIP lounge where you can order bottle service and a variety of snacks if that is the experience you are going for. You can see the bottle service menu here. 

5. Take pictures with the dinosaurs

One really interesting part of the event is that you have admission to all of the galleries and special exhibits. It is definitely fun to go through the galleries with friends and take pictures with some of the cool artifacts in the museum, especially the dinosaur gallery. That was definitely my favourite place to take some dramatic pictures with my friends.

6. Hang out with butterflies

Lastly, probably the most unique experience you can have at Nature Nocturne is that you can go into the butterfly gallery. While it is an extra $5 for tickets to the butterfly gallery, it is definitely worth it to go for some really unique photo opportunities.
